FAAPVI invites you to “Sama-sama Tayo sa Sinehan at Kainan”
(Sharing the Filipino Cinema and Food Experience).

Celebrating Filipino Cinema and Filipino Food Month, a project of FAAPVI, in partnership with Filipino Food Oregon, and various Fil-Am organizations in Oregon.

The whole project will be statewide but will start in the City of Portland for 2 weeks starting on April 5 - April 19 (and runs from April 5, 2024 - June 2, 2024 in the State of Oregon). Project is spearheaded by FAAPVI, in collaboration with other Fil-Am organizations in Oregon.

The featured international movie, “When I Met You in Tokyo”, is one of the official entries of the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (Philippines), as well as an entry at the Manila International Film Festival (Los Angeles), and stars Filipino movie icons, Vilma Santos (won Best Actress for both Film Fests) and Christopher de Leon.

ABOUT THE FILM: (This movie has subtitles)

This romance film tells a story about unconditional love, sacrifices, suffering, age, and aging. It is about a "dedicated and devotedly in love with each other" Filipino elderly couple and their courageous end of life journeys. Joey is an OFW permanent resident of Japan who is wounded and traumatized by his ex-wife's betrayal. He promised himself never to love again but things changed when he met Azon, who is also an OFW and a permanent resident in Japan who will make him believe to give love another shot, only to discover after only few years of a happy blissful marriage that Azon is dealing with an age-related debilitating disease that will surely break Joey's heart once more.

CAST: Christopher De Leon, Vilma Santos

 WHAT’S DIFFERENT:

  • For the Portland Metro leg of the event which starts April 5 to April 20, there will be a two (2) week Filipino Food Fest, where featured Filipino food vendors will sell ‘meriendas’ (Filipino hors d’oeuvres and desserts) before each movie screening at the Fil-Am Center (5pm to 7pm)
  • We will also have participating Filipino restaurants and other food establishments offer a “special” at their business location, which can be an entrée or a dessert, named after the movie icons/ characters of the film.
  • Fil-Am groups in Central and South of Oregon were invited to collaborate with us to show the film at their cities and do the same Filipino Food Fest.
  • There will be 5 movie showings at the Fil-Am building located in Portland (the building can handle 180 people each day)
  • It will be a great movie experience as the Fil-Am Center will have updated sound system and equipment, as there are plans to do more of these kinds of projects in the future.
